Black Belt for the WM

W Bro Stuart Dubois, the current WM of Shotokan Karate Lodge, first started training in Shotokan Karate 33 years ago, but due to moving location, minor health issues and other lame excuses, had never achieved his Shodan – First Dan Black Belt … until now.

After a gruelling 3.5 hour grading, which included: thirteen combinations of Kihon (basic techniques), nine sets of pre-planned Kumite (sparring), ten Kata (forms) with demonstration of the Bunkai (applications) for one chosen Kata, a 500 word essay, two minutes of Jiyu Kumite (free sparring) and an oral exam covering Karate history, terminology and the Dojo Kun (principles) in Japanese, W Bro Stuart will now proudly wear his Black Belt in the Dojo, and under his apron at future meetings of the Shotokan Karate Lodge.
